Bio
The year is 2013. Two members played in a black metal band “Slecht” before and wanted to explore the more slow, heavy, in your face music.
First effort was as a three piece called “Bagger”. Still missing the heaviness that they wanted to achieve, a longtime friend who previously played in Lemuria / My Lament joined the ranks. When the first notes were formed, a name had to be found. An article caught their eye about rats that attacked people by jumping to their throat. Alast Throatsnapper was formed.
Thoatsnapper recorded their s/t demo in 2015. It demonstrates heavy, distorted riffs with a pummeling drum patern. The vocals, reduced to a minimum, create a dark, rat – infested atmosphere. After playing live in Belgium and the Netherlands over the years, they were also. writing songs which later will form the “About the dead” album. In contrast with the EP, the songs became more melodic, yet the sludge feeling keeping in mind, evolving to a more doom/post metal sub genre. Every song has his own identity, but forms a unique sound remarkable for Throatsnapper. It took about three years. This shows a well thought writing process, for approximately 37 minutes, six songs of grief. Yes, grief. Every song and their lyrics are based on those for the band members important persons who followed their path, which is set, leading to death.
Without elaborating every song, there is one song, ‘Dodenmars’, which is an own interpretation of a traditional song named ‘Dodenmars van Wortel’.
In June 2018, the songs were recorded at the Much Luv Studio, by Tim De Gieter, known for his earlier work with bands such as Brutus, Amenra, Barst,…
and mastered by Maurice de Jong from Gnaw their Tongues. The artwork is done by Misanthropic art.
Five years after their “About the Dead” album (released by Consouling Sounds in 2019), the writing and recording of the new album is complete. It will be entitled “About life”, which forms a perfect bridge between their last album: the songs deal with the emotions we have to face everyday; both negative aspositive, like life itself. Eight tracks are recorded, and this shows a clear evolution in their sound. The goal was to have a more raw, live sounding record, and this is achieved at the Acheron Studio. Everything is mixed by Celestial Event Studio, Antwerp and mastered by Chris Fielding (Conan). Artwork by Ana Luna.
